Here I thought you were referring to the white phosphorus the good guys are using on the insurgents.

You want to go over and try that out on the Insurgents, you're most welcome. ;)

I guess you missed the fact that their country is being occupied. Elementary logic/morality: reverse the situation... Country X, with overwhelming military power, his bombing the US and has implanted an interim government... You would accept this set of circumstances? Or would you fight back?

If we had previously had a saddam style regime, I'd be out there shooting the terrorists myself!

How long do you want to keep this going?
The Iraqis exactly tried to end Saddam's regime (a regime throughout the 80s supported financially and militarily by the US and Britain) at the end of Gulf War I, but Bush sr. withdrew support for their efforts - For Bush, it was strategically better to have a weakened despot in nominal power than a genuinely popular government created by the "insurgents". You can read about it - try the archives at zmag.org, for example.

If we had previously had a saddam style regime...

Sorry, I have to backtrack after my last diversion into early 90s history.

The propostion I gave you was to reverse the current situation in Iraq. If another country had invaded, bombed and replaced the government of the US, what would you do? The nature of the deposed government is irrelevant since there are no (or very few) cases in history of one country invading another to remove an unpopular government without much more to gain for themselves - and anyway, bombing the unfortuante citizenry is hardly a benevolent act.
