01:52 pm - Hi!
I have been quiet lately. Not much to report. I'm pretty much about 95% recovered from the surgery. I still have a little bit of ringing in my ears. And maybe once a day I feel a little bit of sway in my step that I didn't intend. Bit of the sensation of taste is missing too. Other than that I'm feeling pretty good. Mostly I've been catching up on some schoolwork; midterms last week. I've read a bunch of books, gonna dump the list to booktards in a bit. Although I'm taking a C course, I've been reading both the textbook and another (geekier) book at the same time, cuz I really want to finally get good at programming in at least one language besides Perl. Not that I'm very good at perl, mind you. It is working so far. I think I'm running a 3.5 or a 4.0 in that class.

I still can't take the Suzuki out. It IS driving me insane. I keep hearing motorcycles rumble past the house, and my nose gets plastered to the window like a pathetic puppy that hasn't been outside in weeks.

I can't go hiking for an entire month. They were pretty specific about that.

Plus, until August 5th, I don't get the external device for the CI, so I don't really recieve any benefit from it yet. In fact, I've got half the hearing I had before the surgery, maybe a little less from recovery tinnitus. Keeping my fingers crossed for the 5th though.

Big social event on the 12th. I will have to de-hermit myself despite being megadeaf. At least everybody there already knows I'm screwed up! I can tune them out without them being offended. Plus, there will be copious amounts of alcohol, so nobody will remember!

Since its nice and cool out, I'm gonna finally scrub the bird poop from the truck. Got some of that bug-b-gone crap from the auto store yesterday.

Weeeeellll, thats about it!

Thanks for updating, been wondering about you.

So, I jumped into this conversation late, sorry if you have already posted this answer. Is this surgery to help repair your hearing? In other words, are you supposed to hear better than before the surgery, or, is it to stop it from deteriorating more?

Yes and No. Technically, the surgery removed all of my biological hearing ability in my left ear. However, the Cochlear Implant bypasses that and should allow me to regain some hearing that I didn't have before.

Basically replacing the "broken" biological parts with functioning electronic ones.

So... what might be a comfortable way for you to interact with others, at a big social event? Any advice for folks looking forward to seeing you soon?

Look at me when you talk. Don't talk when there's tons of background noise. Stand on my right side.

If all else fails, I have a pad of paper and a pencil, usually.
